Every Contribution Moves HAMi Forward | HAMi Incubating Community Night Recap

On the evening of September 6, HAMi Incubating Community Night, co-hosted by Dynamia, HAMi, and CNCF, was held in Shanghai. Partners from the HAMi community and the broader cloud-native and AI infrastructure ecosystem gathered: community contributors and users who traveled from Japan and Vietnam, alongside representatives of global organizations and companies including CNCF, Huawei, AMD, Biren, DaoCloud, FusionNuke, and JuiceFS.

They were joined by HAMi Maintainers, Approvers, and Contributors based in Shanghai, as well as end users, chip and cloud vendors, and open-source community representatives. The night both commemorated HAMi entering CNCF Incubating and gave the stage to the people who built the project along the way. Technology introduced HAMi to more people — but it is this ongoing collaboration that brought HAMi where it stands today.

From One Question to a Global Collaboration Network

HAMi's story began in 2020, from a real problem of GPU resource sharing and efficient utilization. In 2024, HAMi joined CNCF Sandbox; in July 2026, the project was officially promoted to CNCF Incubating.

The community network keeps expanding. As of August 2026, 717 contributors have participated in the project through code, PRs, issues, or reviews, including 270 code committers directly driving its technical evolution. Contributors are spread across many countries and regions — a network being woven together by developers, users, and ecosystem partners.

As the community grows, "how to keep more people participating" matters even more. As HAMi's founding and core maintenance team, Dynamia has long connected R&D, community operations, ecosystem partnerships, and production practice: bringing real requirements into the project, helping different roles find their path to contribute, and making sure every contribution gets a response.

A Celebration Belonging to the Whole Community

The evening opened with casual self-introductions from several invited guests. Unlike a formal technical agenda, this segment naturally set the theme of the Community Night: thanking the community and ecosystem partners who have built HAMi, and celebrating the project's entry into CNCF Incubating.

The good wishes extended into the room through a greeting video recorded by the global community and ecosystem partners. Afterwards, everyone present came on stage to cut the commemorative cake and take a group photo. This was not a celebration belonging to one person or one organization — it was thanks to every co-builder, and a new stage the HAMi community enters together.

Beyond Code, People Are Moving HAMi Forward Too

As the community grows, the ways to participate in HAMi have multiplied. Code, technical decisions, and release maintenance form the backbone of the project's evolution; technical writing, community events, public sharing, answering newcomers' questions, and ecosystem connections likewise help HAMi reach more developers and real scenarios.

At the event, Jimmy Song, Dynamia's Director of Open Source Ecosystem and HAMi Community Manager, officially launched the HAMi Ambassador Program. Drawing on the mature experience of the CNCF Ambassador program, it establishes a clear community identity and support mechanism for contributors who long-term spread HAMi, connect developers, organize events, and drive community growth.

The first cohort of HAMi Ambassadors includes Mesut Oezdil, Wang Tianqing, Li Xueduan, Shivam Kumar, and Saiyam Pathak. Coming from China, Germany, and India, they make HAMi seen and used by more people through documentation, technical content, event organization, and community outreach.

Making Every Contribution Visible

Community Appreciation was one of the most important moments of the night. It sets no rankings and does not grade contributions; instead, it sincerely thanks the co-builders who have long shouldered responsibility for the project and pushed community collaboration forward.

• Maintainer Recognition: honoring Maintainers who long-term carry responsibility for project direction, technical decisions, release evolution, and community governance.
• Approver Recognition: honoring Approvers who continuously participate in code review, release maintenance, and community collaboration.
• Contributor Recognition: honoring Contributors who advance the project through code, documentation, issues, reviews, testing, and production practice.

A piece of code, a review, a document, an issue — or one validation and feedback from a production environment — can each become the project's next step forward. The community thrives precisely because these different forms of participation keep happening.

Moving Forward, Together

In the My HAMi Story open-mic session, community and ecosystem partners shared their own HAMi stories from the angles of code contribution, community participation, technical practice, and ecosystem cooperation. Together these voices showed that HAMi's journey from Sandbox to Incubating relied not only on developers' sustained contributions, but also on the investment of users, enterprises, and ecosystem partners in real applications, feedback, and collaboration.

The open core of AI infrastructure needs participants from different chips, platforms, and application scenarios to polish it together, in order to answer real and diverse compute demands. Entering Incubating gives this road a more solid starting point. HAMi will keep walking alongside CNCF, global contributors, and ecosystem partners, turning more people's practices into capabilities the community shares.
